"Access Restricted" when you open a project for editing

What the Access Restricted screen in the project editor means, why it appears even for a project you can see, and how to get access.

Opening a project in the editor when you are not on its team shows a screen headed Access Restricted, with the message that you are not part of the project and do not have permission to access it.

Seeing a project and editing it are different things

This catches people out most often on a project they can read perfectly well. A published project is visible to anyone; editing it is limited to the people on its team. So a link to the editor for someone else's project will always land here, even though the same person can open the project page itself without any trouble.

How to get access

The editor cannot grant it to you, so there is no button here that will let you in. Access comes from the project's team:

  1. Open the project's normal page.
  2. Find the Project Team card in the sidebar.
  3. Ask an owner or team member to invite you.

Once someone adds you to the team, the same editor link opens normally. You do not need to do anything else, and you do not need to sign out and back in.

If you think you should already have access

Check that you are signed in as the right account. Having two accounts, one personal and one through an organization, is the usual explanation: the project belongs to the team the other account is on.
