Why is the link in my About section not clickable?

Because links pointing off UNI are removed. Your About text and the description on an Experience entry are cleaned at the moment you save, so the address is not stored at all. Retyping it will not make it stick, and there is nothing to recover by opening the entry again.

What happens to each kind of link

  1. A link to any site other than uni.xyz loses its link. The words you linked stay and read as ordinary text.
  2. A web address typed out as text is deleted outright. Anything beginning http://, https:// or www. is removed along with its text, and the sentence closes over the gap.
  3. Email and phone links lose their link. The visible text stays.
  4. Links to uni.xyz and its subdomains survive as working links, so pointing at your own project, journal, publication or profile is fine.

Runs of spaces left behind by a removed address are collapsed to one, which is why a sentence can end up reading oddly rather than looking obviously broken. Read your About back once after saving.

The rule reaches the same result twice over

About text and Experience descriptions are cleaned as they are saved, so what UNI stores has no link in it. An Education description is cleaned as it is displayed instead. Either way the reader sees plain text, and there is no setting anywhere that turns this off.

The same rule runs on publication descriptions, on comments, and on your bio. Links are stripped from publication descriptions explains the reasoning, which is the same here: a free text field that everyone can read is where link spam goes first, and no rule that keeps some links can be applied without somebody judging which ones are genuine.

Where to put your portfolio address

Use the Links card on the same About page. That is the field made for web addresses, and an address added there stays a working link. Your website, your social profiles and your portfolio all belong there rather than inside a paragraph.

How much you can write

About takes 2,000 characters. Each Experience or Education description takes 2,000. An achievement description takes 1,000.
