All Competitions is the unfiltered list, and its default sort is furthest deadline first. Closed competitions are in it because it applies no date filter of any kind, and the ordering starts from the deadline that is longest away because that is the default the tab ships with. Both are working as built, and both are easy to change once you know which tab does what.
Put the soonest deadline first
Open the sort control on All Competitions and choose Registration Deadline (Earliest). The default sits on Registration Deadline (Latest), which is the same field read from the other end. Title A-Z and Z-A are also there.
What each tab actually filters on
The tabs are not five views of the same list. Each one asks the server a different question.
- Ongoing, the page you land on at uni.xyz/competitions. A curated set of featured competitions, then a full list of competitions still open, ordered by the deadline closing soonest. This is the tab to use when you want something you can enter today.
- All. Every public competition on UNI, open or closed, with no date filter. It is the complete catalogue, which is why it is the largest tab and the least selective.
- Upcoming. Competitions whose registration has not opened yet, meaning their registration start date is still in the future. A competition currently open for entry is not here, it is under Ongoing.
- Trending. Competitions with at least one deadline still ahead of them, ordered by how many entries they have taken. There is no sort control on this tab, because the ordering is the point of it.
- Past. Competitions run by UNI where every deadline has passed. Ordered by entry count by default, so the biggest ones come first. You can re-sort by submission date or title.
- Listed. Competitions that UNI lists but does not run, whether they are open or long finished. Ordered newest first.
Two consequences worth knowing
Past and Listed do not overlap. Past only ever holds competitions UNI hosts. A listed competition that closed years ago stays under Listed and never appears under Past, so hunting for it in the archive will not find it.
Trending and Ongoing both mean "still running", but not identically. Trending accepts any deadline still in the future, including a results date on a competition whose registration closed months ago. So a competition can be trending and no longer open to enter. Check the registration deadline on the card before you plan around it.
Filters apply on top of any tab
Discipline, location, organiser and the rest sit above whichever tab you are on and narrow it further. If a filtered list comes back nearly empty, the tab is usually the reason rather than the filter: Upcoming and Past are much smaller sets than All.
