Juror dashboard counts look stale: the six-hour cache

My juror dashboard is showing old numbers and my progress did not move after I scored an entry. Why?

If you scored an entry and the counters on your juror dashboard did not move, your scores are safe and nothing has been lost. The numbers on that page are held for six hours after they are first worked out for you. Until that time is up you keep seeing the figures from when they were last calculated, however many entries you get through in the meantime.

The counters are cached, the entry lists are not

Two different things are on your screen and they refresh on different clocks.

Held for six hours:

Always current:

So an entry can be gone from To Evaluate and sitting in Evaluated while the badge above it still shows the older number. The lists are the ones telling you the truth.

Reloading will not shorten the wait

This is a timer, not a stuck page. Refreshing, opening the panel in another tab or clearing your browser cache will all return the same held figures, because they are held before your browser is ever involved. Signing out and back in is the one thing that does clear them, because the figures are held per sign-in. The only thing that changes them is the six hours running out, after which the next visit recalculates and the counters catch up on their own.

The figures are worked out for you individually, so what you see is your own progress against that competition and not the panel's combined total.

What to do in the meantime

  1. Trust the two lists. If an entry has moved into Evaluated, it is scored.
  2. Check a specific entry by opening it. The criteria panel shows every score you have saved against it, and that never goes stale.
  3. Do not re-score an entry because a counter looks low. Scoring it again only overwrites the same score with the same value. Changing a score you already submitted covers what saving again actually does.
  4. Work to the deadline, not to the progress bar. Scoring closes when the evaluation round ends, whatever the dashboard says at the time. See the jury deadline.

If the dashboard shows nothing at all rather than out of date figures, that is a different problem: see your juror dashboard is empty.
