The Open for entry strip holds six competitions, chosen by one rule: registration is open right now, and these are the six closing soonest. It is a shortcut, not a version of the competitions feed, which is why the two rarely match. The feed is the full list. The strip is the six most urgent things in it.
What qualifies a competition for the strip
Three conditions, all of them required:
- The competition is public.
- Its registration window has started. A competition announced but not yet open to enter is excluded, however close it is.
- Its registration window has not ended. A competition whose registration closed is excluded even if its submission window is still running, so a competition you can still submit work to can be absent.
Whatever survives that is ordered by which registration closes first, and the first six are shown. There is no editorial choice involved, no weighting by prize or popularity, and no preference for competitions UNI runs over ones it lists.
If your competition is not in it
Being outside the six is the ordinary case, and it is not a ranking. Any of these will keep a competition out: registration has not opened yet, registration has closed, the competition is not public, or six other competitions close before yours does. As those six close, the ones behind them move up on their own.
The strip is rebuilt at most once every two minutes, so a competition that has just opened can take a couple of minutes to appear.
When the strip is missing entirely
If the data cannot be loaded, the section is left out rather than showing an error or an empty box. The rest of the page renders normally. Reload, and if it is still absent, the full list at uni.xyz/competitions is unaffected and always current.
