UNI uses cookies to keep you signed in, to remember your preferences, and to understand how the site is used.
When you agree to them
You accept UNI's use of cookies when you create an account or sign in. That acceptance is part of agreeing to the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, and it covers the cookies described on the Cookie Policy page.
There is no separate cookie prompt to answer, and no per-category toggle inside UNI.
What the cookies do
Keeping you signed in. Session and authentication cookies are what stop you having to sign in again on every page. Blocking these will stop you being able to use an account at all.
Free reading allowance. If you are reading while signed out, a cookie
named uni_anon_id is set on your first visit. It holds a random identifier
and nothing else, no name, no address and no browsing history. It is what
lets your free reads be counted against your own browser rather than against
everyone sharing your internet connection. See

Security. A CSRF token cookie protects forms and actions from being triggered by another site on your behalf.
Preferences. Small settings such as your theme are remembered in your browser.
Analytics. Aggregate usage measurement, so we can see which pages and features are actually used. This is about patterns across many people, not about following one person around the web.

How to control or remove them
Cookies are controlled in your browser, and every major browser lets you do this:
- See and delete the cookies a site has stored, individually or all at once.
- Block cookies from a site, or all third-party cookies.
- Clear on exit, so nothing persists between sessions.
- Private or incognito windows, which discard cookies when the window closes.
Look under Settings, then Privacy, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. Deleting UNI's cookies signs you out; nothing in your account, projects or entries is affected.
Withdrawing your agreement
If you no longer want UNI to store cookies for you, the way to withdraw is to stop using the account and clear the cookies in your browser. Because sign-in itself depends on them, a signed-in session without cookies is not possible.
