How to connect a journal or publication to your project

You connect a journal or a publication to a project from the Project Editor, using the Journals and Publications panels in its sidebar. Both panels attach work you have already published on UNI. Neither one writes the journal or the publication for you, and neither one lets you point at a link somewhere else on the internet.

What you need first

1. The journal or publication has to be published. Anything still in draft does not appear in the picker.
2. It has to be yours. You can only attach journals and publications you wrote yourself, even on a project you share with other people. If a teammate's journal belongs on the project, they attach it from their own account.
3. You need to be on the project team with permission to manage its content, which normally means you own the project or you were made an admin on it.

Attach a journal

1. Open the project from the Projects tab on your profile and choose Edit.
2. In the sidebar, under Edit Project, click Journals.
3. On the Associated journals page, click the Add journal card.

4. The Select Journals to Connect window lists your published journals, newest first. Use the search box if the list is long. 5. Tick one or more, then click Connect Selected. 6. Click Publish.

Journals already attached to this project show a Connected mark in that list, so you cannot add the same one twice.

Attach a publication

Same route, one panel further down.

1. In the sidebar, under Edit Project, click Publications.
2. On the Associated publications page, click the Add publication card.
3. In the Select Publications to Connect window, tick the ones you want and click Connect Selected.
4. Click Publish.

Publishing again is the step people miss

Attaching or removing something counts as an edit to the project. It goes into your draft, and the live project page keeps showing the last published version until you click Publish again. If you attached a journal and it is not on the public page, that is almost always the reason.

Where the attached work appears

On the live project page, attached work sits in the column beside the project, under the headings Connected Journals and Connected Publications, each with a count. Every card links through to the full journal or publication. A heading only appears when there is at least one item under it, so a project with no journals attached shows no journals section at all.

Remove one

1. Go back to the Journals or Publications panel.
2. Hover over the card you want to remove and click the X on it.
3. Confirm on the Unlink Journal or Unlink Publication prompt by clicking Yes.
4. Click Publish.

Removing it only detaches it from this project. The journal or publication itself stays published on your profile and keeps its own page, its views and its comments.

If you have nothing to attach yet

When you have no published work of that kind, the picker says so and offers Create Journal or Create Publication, which opens the editor for a new one. Write it, publish it, then come back to the project and attach it.

This is not a competition entry

Attaching a journal or a publication to a project does not enter it into anything. Some competitions do take a journal or a publication as the entry itself, but that is a separate flow, described in How can I submit a publication or journal as an entry in a UNI competition?.
