Once you have blocked notifications for uni.xyz, UNI cannot ask you again. Browsers allow one prompt, and after a block the decision is yours to reverse from the browser's own site settings. Set uni.xyz back to Allow, then load a UNI page while signed in and leave it open for a few seconds. Your browser is registered again quietly, with nothing for you to confirm.
The permission belongs to the browser, not to your account
There is no push switch inside UNI. Whether push works is a setting on one browser on one device, so allowing it in Chrome on your laptop does nothing for Safari on your phone, and clearing site data can drop it again. The email switches at uni.xyz/accounts/settings/notifications are a separate thing and have no effect on push.
Turning it back on
- Open any uni.xyz page.
- Select the icon at the left of the address bar. It is a padlock or a set of sliders depending on the browser. In Safari, use Settings for uni.xyz in the Safari menu instead.
- Find Notifications and set it to Allow.
- Reload the page and stay on it, signed in, for a few seconds.
Step 4 is the one people miss. The re-registration happens on its own a moment after the page loads, and there is no confirmation message when it succeeds.
On an iPhone or iPad, web push only works if you add uni.xyz to your Home Screen and open it from there. Safari in the browser cannot receive it.
Not everything is pushed
There are three kinds of notification, and only two of them ever leave the site.
- Sent to you straight away: a payment or membership going through, an entry being submitted, shortlist and results news, a deadline closing, someone commenting on or replying to your work, and being invited or added to something.
- Held for one daily summary, sent at 21:00 IST, covering new followers, likes, saves and everything else that is not urgent. It is one push, not one per item.
- Bell only, never pushed. Account, moderation and support notices sit here.
A push that cannot be delivered because the device is offline is held for 24 hours and then dropped, so a phone switched off over a weekend will not receive the backlog.
Turning it off again
Set Notifications back to Block in the same place. Nothing inside UNI does this for you, and the email settings page will not do it either.
