Entry fees are set per competition, and most competitions price students separately from professionals. There is no student discount on membership plans.
Fee categories on a competition
Open the competition and go to its Awards & Fees section. The Registration fees column lists a price per entry for each category the competition offers. The categories are usually named:
- Students
- Professionals
- Institutional Access, which is the category for a school or department registering a group
A competition can name its own categories instead, and some competitions offer only one. Fees are shown in US dollars.
Across UNI's competitions the student price is most often the lowest of the three, but not always. Plenty of competitions charge students and professionals exactly the same. Read the amounts on the competition page rather than assuming there is a student rate. Some competitions are free to enter for everyone.
You choose your category when you register, in the Select Category step.
You are not asked for proof when you register
Nothing checks your student status at registration. You pick a category, pay or use a membership entry, and submit like everyone else.
Proof is asked for later, and only if you win. If an award is assigned to an entry you registered under the student or institutional category, the award closure form adds a Student Verification step that asks for a bonafide certificate, a student ID card or a letter of authorization. Entries registered as professional never see that step.
Because of that, pick the category that is actually true for you. Student verification for competitions covers what the form accepts.
Membership has no student rate
Membership tiers and their prices are the same for everyone. There is no student plan and no student discount, and prices are listed on the membership page.
Membership can still work out cheaper for a student, because several tiers include a number of competition entries at no entry fee. The Weekly and Monthly tiers include none. See membership tiers for the comparison.
What gets added at checkout
A 7.5% payment gateway charge is added to every payment on UNI, including entry fees, memberships and credit packs. It is shown as its own line before you confirm, and it is not refundable. See payment methods.
Entry fees themselves are not refundable once an entry is registered, and a paid entry fee cannot be moved to another competition. See refunds and cancellations.
If you are not sure which category applies
Read the competition's own rules first, since who may register in each category is set per competition. If it is still unclear, email contact@uni.xyz or ask to open a conversation with the UNI team, and name the competition.
