Reporting an organization

How do I report an organization on UNI?

There is no Report button on an organization's page. To report an organization itself, write to UNI through the contact form at uni.xyz/contact, and choose Report & Moderation as the category. A person reads what you send.

If what is actually wrong is something the organization published, report that instead. A project, journal, competition or publication each carry their own Report option on the item's page, and a report sent that way arrives attached to the work, which makes it far quicker to act on.

What to include

The more precisely you identify the thing you are reporting, the less time is spent establishing what you mean.

  1. The organization's web address, in the form uni.xyz/organizations/ and its short name. Names repeat; addresses do not.
  2. Links to the specific pages, posts or entries you are reporting, rather than a description of them.
  3. What you believe is wrong, in your own words. UNI groups reports under headings such as harassment, hate speech, copyright violation, trademark violation, violation of privacy, plagiarism, violation of competition rules, and adult or illegal content. You do not have to pick one correctly.
  4. Anything that supports it: screenshots, the original of copied work, dates, or a link to the same material published elsewhere first.
  5. If you are reporting on behalf of an institution or a rights holder, say so and say in what capacity.

What happens after you send it

Your report goes to UNI's team and is read by a person. There is no automatic system in this path: nothing about a report changes an organization's page, its position in the directory or its status on its own, and reports do not build up towards a threshold that acts without a human decision.

We cannot promise you an outcome, and we will not give you a date. What is decided depends on what the evidence shows, and some reports need us to hear from the organization before anything is settled. You will get a reply at the address on your account.

For a copyright or plagiarism claim about a specific project, start with reporting copyright infringement or plagiarism, which sets out what a takedown request has to contain.
