Every project starts with the same four roles and the same defaults, and they are stricter than most people expect. A Manager and a Team Member can do nothing to your project until you switch something on.

The Permissions page shows this as a count next to each role: Super Admin reads 3/3, Admin 2/3, and Manager and Team Member both read 0/3.
Manage content is the switch that matters
This is the one that decides whether someone can touch the project at all. With it on, a collaborator can add, change and delete images, text, collaborators, tags, disciplines, the location and the licence, connect journals and publications, and publish. With it off, every one of those is refused, and they get a permission message when they try.
So a Manager who tells you they cannot edit the media page is not hitting a bug. Their role starts with Manage content off, and only you can turn it on.
All permissions is the ownership switch
Despite the name, this is not a master toggle over the other two. It is the setting that lets someone take over the project completely, including removing you from it. The page says as much: use it when you intend to hand the project over. Admins do not have it by default, and Super Admins always do.
Two more permissions exist that this page does not show
Task creation and task deletion are held per role as well, but there are no switches for them here. Their defaults are:
- Super Admin and Admin: both on.
- Manager: both on. This is the only thing a Manager can do out of the box.
- Team Member: both off.
Only a Super Admin can change any of this
Everyone else, Admins included, is refused with Only super admins can change permissions. Super Admin's own row cannot be edited by anyone, which is what stops a project ending up with nobody in charge of it.
The settings belong to this project alone
Each project gets its own copy of the four roles when it is created. Loosening Manager on one project changes nothing on your others, and it does not change anything for that person anywhere else on UNI. Which role a collaborator holds is set on the Team page rather than here.
