Sending an invitation does not add anyone to your project. It creates a pending invitation and emails a link. Until the person opens that link, or accepts from their own account, nothing changes on their side: they cannot open the project, and the project does not appear anywhere for them.
The link accepts the invitation, and only for the address it was sent to
Opening the link while signed in to the account that owns the invited address accepts the invitation on the spot. You are joined to the team, and the person who invited you gets a notification.
The address has to match the one on your account exactly, capital letters included. If you were invited at Name@example.com and your account is name@example.com, the link opens the project page and accepts nothing. Ask for a fresh invitation at the address as it is written on your account.
If you are signed in to a different account, or signed out, the link sends you to sign in first and does not accept anything.
An invited address with no UNI account gets the email, not an account
If the address has never been used on UNI, the invitation still exists and the email still goes out. There is no in-app notification, because there is no account to put it in. Following the link takes you to the sign-in page.
Signing up does not join you to the project. Create the account using the same address you were invited at, then open Projects in your profile, where pending invitations sit at the top of the page with Accept and Decline.
Invitations expire three days after they are sent
Three days is the whole window. After that the link stops working, and it fails silently: you land on your own projects page or the UNI home page with no explanation.
The person who invited you can send it again from the three-dot menu on the team card.
Two more reasons an invite looks like it went nowhere
- The project has no web address yet. An unpublished project cannot be linked to, so the invitation link drops the invitee on their own projects page instead. The invitation is still valid and can be accepted from there.
- The email did not arrive. Check spam, then cancel the pending invitation and add the person again.
