FAQs
- Is there a fee for participating in this contest?
No, participation is free of charge.
- Are only students of architecture/interior design eligible to participate in the ArchWeekly?
Participants from all disciplines and backgrounds can participate in ArchWeekly.
- Do we need to have a portfolio or writing background to take part in these competitions?
Participants are not required to have any writing experience or credentials. ArchWeekly is open for all enthusiasts, both beginners and professionals to submit writing content.
- Can we co-write and submit one essay as a team?
No. The essay must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
- Can I submit more than one essay/article in 1 topic?
The participant can submit multiple entries for a single competition but they have to be registered separately.
- Can I participate in all the released competitions at the same time or do I have to wait for the deadline of each topic to submit my submissions?
Yes, you can participate in all contests of ‘ArchWeekly’ released. The submissions can be done at the same time for all the contests you have registered for.
- Where can I put my name on the submission page?
You do not need to mention your name in the submission as it will be linked to your UNI account. We advise you to complete your user profile on the UNI website.
- Can I submit my essay in my native language?
The competition’s official language is in English only. All submissions are required to be in English.
- How should I interpret the essay theme? Do I need to answer all the questions in the theme description?
The interpretation of the theme is up to you. The questions raised in the description may help you explore the main theme, but it is not necessary to answer each and every question.
- Do I need a cover page for my essay?
Yes, a cover page must be included as part of your submission. Details included in submission requirements.
- My story/article/essay is a little over 1500 words. Is it acceptable?
Yes, the word count limit is suggestive, you can exceed or stay below the same. Up to about 10% more or less than the specified word count is allowed.
- Will my essay title be included in the word count limit?
There are separate tabs for entering the ‘Title’ and subtitle (optional) on the Journal submission page, so it will not be included in the word count limit.
- Can I quote from books or websites? Will references be included in the word count?
If you use quotations, please mention the source in a references list at the bottom of the written content. References and bibliography will also not be included in the word count.
- Some resources that I can use?
- Images: Pexel, Unsplash.
- Writing check: Grammarly.
- Proofreading: Grammarly, Hemingway editor.
- Plagiarism Checker: Grammarly.
- Can I submit entries to themes even after their results are announced?
Yes, even if the results of themes have been announced, you can still submit your entries to be eligible for winning ArchWeekly Awards.
- I did not receive a confirmation email after submitting my essay. How can I make sure that my essay has been successfully submitted and received?
The submission has to be done in the journal section on the website and the submission can be seen on your profile. The submission must be linked to the specific competition of ArchWeekly. Check the tutorial here.
- Can I be eligible to win many prizes in the ArchWeekly program?
Yes, a single participant is eligible to compete for more than one prize on their entries.
- Can I obtain a certificate of participation?
Yes, you can download the certificate of participation from your profile, as soon as the competition ends and results are announced.
Pro Tips
- Use a spell checker (like Grammarly) to ensure that the article is grammatically sound. Always proofread before submission.
- You can run a readability check on – Hemmingway editor to get insights on complexity.
- Give due citations and references wherever required.
- Test your essay for plagiarism before submitting. You may use any of the online services for the same (like smallseotools, duplichecker, grammarly, etc.). We expect the writing to be original – however even when citing - maximum 20% plagiarism level in the text is permitted throughout the essay.
- All submissions will be viewed on a digital device and will not be printed. The submission, hence, should be prepared for digital viewing only.
