In the brief, it is mentioned that the facility is to be designed for up to 50 beds and 50 staff members, does that mean we need to provide accommodation for the staff as well or only working place?
Hi Miti, No accommodation for the staff has to be designed on the premises. They will be working in shifts. The numbers are given to give participants an idea of how many staff members will work on-site and understand the scale of the facility/ancillary amenities.
1.)will the nurses be on shifts or do we have to provide proper living space for them?
A: Nurses will be on shifts. No accommodation for them on site.
2.)do we have to provide radiology labs etc.?
A: No radiology room in the building. The tests will be made off-site.
1.) are we supposed to make individual rooms or wards for patients ?
A: There is expected to be a balance of rooms/wards and shared wards. This can be based on a thumb rule by the designer
2.) can we change the topography of the site(by providing contours on the site)?
A: Yes you may partly alter the topography of the site.
3.) can we provide a basement? if yes then, what can be the depth of the basement?
A: You can drop only 1 level below the ground and for service like functions, like parking or service equipment.
In the brief, it is mentioned that the ground coverage should not be more than 30%, So are overgangs and cantilever rooms are exempted from the ground coverage, also if the first floor has rooms and on the ground floor we have provided semi-open spaces with only the supporting system on the ground will that be allowed?
Hello, sorry for the delay.
Overhangs, balconies, other spaces for ancillary activities and cantilever rooms are exempted from the ground coverage, although the areas and technical parameters of the same should be practical. Cantilevers with supports on the ground are allowed but they will be considered in the ground coverage.
Hello, I noticed that the specific age group of the children that the hospice accommodates is not mentioned, so if there's a specific age group, what is it? or is it up to the designer?
Hello Nisreen, basement/underground parking won't be counted in the FAR but it should not be more than the ground coverage. It has to be designed exactly under the structure, not adjacent to it and you can drop only 1 level below the ground.
In the site, it is mentioned that the site provides close access to the St. Hope public school for convenience, does that mean we have to keep the road from the golden state highway to the St. Hope public school. If yes, why we have to keep it?
how many carparks should we design?what are wards?do we have hospital wards?do we have to provide spaces for families to stay with the children around the clock?
Hii Shadi, 1. Parking is to be designed on basis of the number of staff and beds (in turn family members) mentioned in the brief.
2. Wards in the brief, refers to patient rooms which are expected to be a balance of individual rooms/wards and shared rooms/wards. It can be based on a thumb rule by the designer.
3. Permanent/Temporary spaces for family members can be based on your designs for wards/rooms/lounges.
I see the site is circled by rectangular shape; however, I want to know if we can place greening and parking lots in the open space around the site. Or we can only put the parking lot in the rectangular field.

Hi, I want to ask about the goal of the competition, is it going to be a real construction project or only an idea project?
Hello, This is an idea challenge only. The project won't be constructed in real-time.

Hello Hanya, you can choose any specific age group of children based on your design.

Hello Abila, it isn't mandatory to provide a road from the golden state highway to the St. Hope public school.

Hello Xinyu, all aspects of design (parking and greening included) has to be incorporated inside the marked site (the rectangular shape)
