Applications go through one form at uni.xyz/about/experts, and the first question is which of five routes you want. Pick the wrong one and the rest of the form is the same, but it reaches the wrong team, so it is worth reading the five before you start.
You do not need a UNI account to apply.
The five routes
- Apply to be a Juror. Evaluate entries on competitions.
- Curate a competition. Shape a brief and run it with UNI.
- Become a guest writer. Write for UNI's editorial pages.
- Launch a course. Teach on UNI. If you arrived from the mentor page, this is your option: the form has no entry called mentor, and the mentor page selects Launch a course for you.
- Submit a competition idea. Propose a brief without committing to run it.
The juror, curator and mentor pages each preselect their own route when you open the form from them.
What the form asks
Fourteen steps, one question per screen. Ten are required.
- Which route you are applying for
- Your first and last name
- Your email, typed twice and checked against itself
- Your years of work experience, chosen from five bands
- Your CV, which is required, not optional
- What you would like to contribute, which must run to at least 50 characters before the form will move on
- Where you are based
- Whether you come from an academic background
- Whether you have published research or run workshops
- Where you heard about UNI
Four steps are optional and can be passed straight through: a supporting document, your personal website, your organisation's website, and anything else you want to add.
The file rules
Both the CV and the supporting document accept PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPG, JPEG and PNG, up to 10 MB each. A file over that size is refused at the point you attach it, so convert or compress before you upload rather than after you are told.
Leaving the form and coming back
Your answers are kept in your browser as you go, so closing the drawer and returning does not lose them. Attached files are the exception: a CV has to be attached again after a reload, because the file itself is not stored with the draft.
After you submit
A confirmation email goes to the address you gave, and it contains a copy of every answer you entered. Keep it, because there is no page on UNI where you can read your application back.
If you press submit twice, or the page seems not to respond and you send it again, a repeat of the same email and the same route within a minute is discarded rather than duplicated. One application arrives, not two.
There is no published response time, and no status page. If you need to add something after submitting, reply to the confirmation email rather than filling the form in again.
