SPARRO is a collaborative lab where individuals are invited to grow their ideas with a team of makers and innovators. SPARRO has been organizing workshops in the field of architecture, design, and robotics for the last 3 years. SPARRO has organized over 27 workshops across India and in 5 architecture institutions including CEPT, Ahmedabad Summer winter school.

The current series of our workshop is a vital step in initiating a movement for design thinkers and makers. Parametrized complexities is a five-day workshop that will explore fabrication, 3D-Printing, Laser cutting using computational and 3D modelling tools like rhinoceros, grasshopper, sensing and interactive technologies using Arduino. Take a look at what we created in our previous series of workshops.

Classroom competitions are a part of this series of workshops and are meant for all the designers who want to explore their way with hands-on experience to gain skills and create real-world projects. Under this series, you participate in workshops at one of these Micro-studio and get awarded a trophy. In association with UNI, we are now expanding our vision of creating these micro-studios globally with a fusion of online design community and offline classrooms. This fusion will help us in combining different ideologies and diverse methodologies, to create a continuum that links ideas such as exploration, debate and collaboration at a global level to understand and create ‘Architecture of Everything.

EDUpass

EDUpass is a pass that can be used to participate in any workshop in this series (registration to be done 3 days prior to the commencement of the workshop). Multiple EDUpasses can be purchased and used in a group to attend a single workshop or a single participant can register for multiple workshops. For example, If you had purchased 6 passes, you can register for 6 different workshops or bring along 5 other friends/colleagues with you to attend a single workshop of your choice.

How does it work?

A Participant can purchase as many passes as he/she wants and 1 PASS permits entry to any 1 workshop and classroom competition of his/her choice.

UNI is a global network of architects and designers who are solving some of the most challenging problems around the globe. UNI brings together the world's largest pool of design challenges that are curated by the finest architecture academicians and professionals globally. With over 200,000+ registered members, UNI brings academia and professional spheres of architecture together through a unique knowledge-sharing web platform.

Since 2017, UNI has hosted more than 200+ architecture competitions for various idea level to realization level briefs. In the past, UNI has helped 50+ organizations, universities, and government bodies to use our platform to generate architecture and design solutions through competitions.

UNI aims to create a seamless information exchange within the architecture industry with this one-of-a-kind community. It foresees a future where architects and consumers are getting real-world design deployed over the internet through sophisticated software and applications from anywhere in the world.

CEPT SUMMER WINTER SCHOOL

CEPT summer winter school lasted for one week. The week-long workshop was an intensive workshop where 25 students participated in it.  Participants learned about the algorithmic modeling on Rhino, Grashopper3d, it's plugins and explored sensors and actuators based technologies to be used in architecture and design. All participants were divided into three groups where they worked on these projects: Deployable Canopy, Octagonal Flasher Spinner and Wave.

THE MODULAR MAN

The modular man was a part of the workshop at SPARRO conducted in 6 sessions where more than 40 people participated in all the 6 sessions. Each session lasted for 1 day and was distributed over 3 weekends. Participants learned how to create complex organic geometries in Rhinoceros3D, they also learned how to fabricate these modules using tools such as nesting use of CNC routers, woodworking, and other workshop tools.

INTERACTIVE TABLE AND FACADES

The workshop was conducted by SPARRO under the series of Sensing and interactive technologies in art, architecture, and design at MOFA studio and at SPARRO. The workshop was conducted in 8 sessions with over 30 participants. We created a Voronoi table using Grasshopper3D and Rhinoceros3d and fabricated it using a laser cutting machine. We further developed this 4' x 1' 6" table into an interactive table.

The interactive table responds based on the social behavior of people. It was rather created as a small module of a large installation which reacts on how people are reacting on social media and becomes an emoticon for the city. For example, if people are discussing more politics it will turn red, if people are discussing more economics it would turn blue, if people are discussing environment it would turn green and can have also represented a mixed multicolored facet of the society.

The interactive facade was created in 2 sessions. It reacts based on the amount of light falling on its facade and will expand or close its aperture.
