Nestled on the hillside of the Rhine valley, the Multi-Generational House with a View designed by MWArchitekten, unfolds a new chapter in multi-generational living architecture. This 370 m² residence in Austria, meticulously captured by Adolf Bereuter, seamlessly blends the traditional with the contemporary to accommodate three generations under one roof.
Reviving Tradition with Modern Intervention
Originally erected in the 1980s, the house underwent several adaptations to meet the evolving needs of its inhabitants. The latest renovation not only preserves the essence of the original structure but also introduces a modern wooden construction for the upper floor, enhancing the living experience while respecting the architectural heritage of the region.
Architectural Strategy: Merging Past and Present
The design strategy was anchored in reverting to the simplicity and clarity of the village's original buildings, characterized by a solid, plastered base and a wooden cubature atop. By wrapping the existing and new structures in a uniform shell of natural fir, MWArchitekten has created a dialogue between the interior and exterior, fostering a symbiotic relationship with the surrounding landscape.
