Aether Gea: A Regenerative Restoration Hub for Women, the Living Earth and the Generations to Come
A call to build with the land, not just on it – a flowing, adaptable space with guest alcoves.
Introduction
I am developing Aether Gea, a small regenerative hub at the foot of Mount Olympus, Greece—near the Aegean Sea. The first phase calls for a multifunctional gathering space: yoga, art workshops, herb craft, and integrated sleeping alcoves. I envision an integral transformable volume with continuous, flowing surfaces and organic plasticity.
Aether Gea is not a commercial agrotourism venture. It is a restoration hub – for the land, for women, for the sacred pause, and for the children who will inherit what we build. Women will come to rest, to listen, to harvest herbs, to press flowers, to sit in silence. For those who are ready, entrepreneurial workshops will help them build what comes next. And alongside them, children will come – to learn where herbs come from, to feel soil in their hands, to understand that a building can be a living system, not a dead object.
But first, there must be a space to gather.
That space is conceived as a contribution to the emerging "Regenaissance" —a global shift towards regenerative, circular, and ecologically-attuned design. It is a project of "Becoming Circular" and "Becoming with Nature," as defined by the UIA 2026 Congress. We seek not a static object, but a dynamic, living system: one that is materially circular, ecologically restorative, and deeply connected to the land, the sea, and all living beings.
A single, flowing multispace where yoga flows into art, herb craft flows into guest stays, and silence flows into action. A sanctuary that listens to the wind, honors the earth, and welcomes all forms of life. A real site. A clear vision. A collaborative beginning.
The Site: Between Mountain and Sea
Located in Pieria, Greece, the land is shaped by the shadow of Olympus and the breath of the Aegean. Six stremmata of Fluvisol soil, semi-arid and silent, have been fallow for years. A certified Soil Food Web Lab has analyzed the land's biology, establishing a baseline for its microbial life.
The Jacques Rougerie competition's theme of "Submerged Lands" speaks directly to this site. Coastal, low-lying, and historically vulnerable to water dynamics, it asks for architecture that listens – to the sea, to the wind, to the soil.
Regenerative Infrastructures: The Building as a Living System
Aether Gea must be more than a beautiful form. It must function as a closed-loop, regenerative system – a building that powers itself, waters itself, and turns waste into food.
I envision infrastructures that are visible, not hidden – so that every visitor, young or old, can see how the building lives:
- Energy harvested from the sun and wind, stored and used cyclically
- Rainwater captured, used, and returned – greywater cycling through constructed wetlands
- Organic waste transformed into soil fertility through composting and biodigesters
- The building as a teacher – where every pipe, panel, and planter is an invitation to learn
This is not only about reducing impact. It is about creating net-positive systems that restore the land even as they shelter the people on it. And it is about educating the next generation – showing children that a different way of building, living, and belonging is not only possible but already here.
A Space for All Life, Especially the Young
This building is not designed for adults alone. It is a space for children to wonder, to ask questions, to touch the walls and follow the water.
I imagine:
- Workshops where kids press flowers and learn the names of herbs
- School visits where they see solar panels and composting toilets as normal, not exotic
- A living laboratory – where the boundary between classroom and wild blurs
The next generation will inherit the climate we are grappling with now. They deserve to grow up in places that model a different relationship with the earth – not as a resource to be extracted, but as a community to be joined.
Aether Gea is not a monument to human dominance. It is an experiment in coexistence – between mountain and sea, between woman and land, between the built and the wild, between this generation and the next.
The Material Invitation: A Local Resource Waiting to Be Reimagined
There is a gravel pit at the foot of Olympus.
This local material is abundant, overlooked, and full of untapped potential. I do not pretend to know the most innovative way to use it. That is not my expertise. But I believe that within this humble, local stone lies the possibility for something remarkable – a building that is at once deeply rooted in its place and radically forward-looking.
I invite architects to bring their most inventive ideas to this material. How can local gravel be transformed into a flowing, durable, beautiful, and low-carbon sanctuary? How can it be used to create continuous surfaces, adaptable spaces, and a structure that feels both ancient and futuristic?
I am not looking for a predetermined solution. I am looking for a design partner who sees the potential in the overlooked – who can look at a pile of local stone and imagine a wall, a floor, a column, a work of art – all while honoring the regenerative infrastructures that will make this building a true living system.
This is an open invitation to experiment, to prototype, to push the boundaries of what a local material can become.
Why This Matters Now
Across the world, pioneering architects, researchers, and communities are proving that low-carbon, circular, and ecologically-attuned architecture is not a distant dream – it is being built right now. From reversible structures to living walls to closed-loop water-energy systems, the techniques exist. The question is not if but how they can be adapted to a specific place, a specific material, a specific vision.
And the children coming after us are watching. They will inherit what we build – not just the building itself, but the values embedded in its walls, its systems, its relationship with the earth.
Aether Gea can be a model – not just for Greece, but for how small, regenerative, community-oriented hubs can flourish everywhere, educating the next generation as they go.

I am not offering a traditional commission. I am offering a collaboration – a chance to build something meaningful on a mythic site, using local materials in ways that have not yet been imagined, with systems that restore rather than deplete, and with the next generation in mind.
