ENNEA Hotel: A Serene Coastal Retreat in Puerto Escondido by Jaque Studio
ENNEA Hotel by Jaque Studio in Puerto Escondido blends elevated coastal views, nature integration, sustainable design, and serene boutique luxury for relaxation.
Nestled in the vibrant coastal town of Puerto Escondido, Mexico, ENNEA Hotel by Jaque Studio redefines luxury hospitality through a seamless connection with nature, climate, and local culture. Completed in 2023, this nine-room boutique hotel occupies a 998 m² elevated site, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean while bordering a protected nature reserve. The project captures the essence of relaxation and disconnection, allowing guests to immerse themselves in both the lush regional vegetation and expansive coastal panoramas.

Architectural Concept and Site Integration
The design of ENNEA Hotel is deeply influenced by the physical and climatic conditions of its surroundings. Positioned just two blocks from the famous Punta Zicatela Beach, the hotel’s architecture responds to elevation, natural light, and wind patterns, creating a self-sustaining microclimate that enhances comfort while preserving the local ecosystem. The property is divided into three main volumes, thoughtfully arranged to foster privacy, social interaction, and scenic continuity.
- Reception and Welcome Volume The first volume serves as the hotel’s welcoming core. A double-height reception hall with interconnected bridges and staircases evokes the feeling of a “small temple of welcome,” guiding guests from the bustling street into the serene hotel gardens, dining areas, and rooms. This transitional space emphasizes gradual immersion into the hotel’s tranquil environment.
- Grand Palapa and Dining Pavilion The second volume, the grand palapa, is strategically placed parallel to Punta Zicatela beach. Supported by exposed concrete columns, this airy structure leverages cross-ventilation to maintain natural cooling and unobstructed views of the central garden, pool, adjacent nature reserve, and ocean. Beneath the palapa, service and administration areas are discreetly integrated, ensuring operational efficiency without disrupting the guest experience.
- Rectangular Prism of Guest Rooms The third volume is a rectangular prism accommodating two upper levels of guest rooms connected by a large helicoidal concrete staircase. The ground floor acts as a shaded extension of the gardens and pool, offering refuge from the midday sun without reliance on air conditioning. Positioned perpendicular to the coast and parallel to the nature reserve, this layout maximizes panoramic views of both the ocean and protected greenery from every room.

Landscape and Outdoor Experience
All hotel buildings converge around a spacious central garden, creating a vibrant outdoor heart for guests. The garden houses treehouse-style rooms, a bar, a massage pavilion, and the main pool. This layout encourages guests to explore and relax in multiple outdoor settings, enhancing the immersive natural experience. The material palette further strengthens the connection to the region, incorporating exposed wood, natural stone, local fabrics, and earth-toned finishes that echo Oaxaca’s rich textures and colors.

A Modern Oasis in Puerto Escondido
ENNEA Hotel represents an architectural oasis within the rapidly growing coastal town of Puerto Escondido. By integrating climate-conscious design, regional materials, and an intimate scale, Jaque Studio has created a space that balances luxury, sustainability, and harmony with nature. Whether enjoying a quiet moment in the garden, savoring a meal under the palapa, or gazing at the Pacific from a guest room, visitors experience a retreat that embodies both serenity and authenticity.
