Graceful Artistry Unleashed: The Visions Ballet Academy

Considered a pinnacle of the Cuban Revolution's architectural accomplishments, the National Art Schools of Cuba, presently known as the Instituto Superior de Arte, comprised five distinct art schools, including the School of Ballet, designed by the renowned architect Vittorio Garatti. The other schools were the School of Modern Dance, the School of Plastic Arts, the School of Dramatic Arts, and the School of Music.

From the summit of the golf course's ravine, one can observe the ballet school complex, situated in the descending gorge. Its layout is composed of a cluster of domed volumes, connected by an intricate arrangement of Catalan vaults that meander through the landscape. There are at least five entrances to the complex, the most impressive of which begins at the top of the ravine with a path divided by a notch to channel rainwater. As one progresses, the terra cotta cupolas, which delineate the major programmatic spaces, become visible, hovering above the lush vegetation.

The path winds its way through the subterranean passage, connecting classrooms, showers, three dance pavilions, administration pavilions, the library, and the Pantheon-like performance theatre. Ascending to its roofs, the path is part of Garatti's paseo arquitectonico, where the essence of the design lies not in the plan, but in the spatial experience of the school's choreographed volumes that move with the descending ravine.
