Frederick Douglass Circle

Design concept:

"Seeds"

In the past, Frederick Douglass Circle served as a monument to the history of the black movement. Over the centuries, whites and blacks have become highly integrated in this area. And in the future, with the advancement of technology, where will the region and the city go?

The design attempts to express the vision of the future block and city in the limited space. Green, ecological and technological development will become the goal of the city's future development. Combined with the green observation tower, it will not only overlook central Park, but also be a greenhouse of green technology, adding a touch of green to the city.

Form generation:

The design takes the germination of a seed as the source point, from the soil to incubate energy to break out of the soil, and then grow rapidly. These green seeds form a green landscape on the traffic island. The central tower has a vertical elevator to the top observation deck for panoramic views of Central Park. The observation tower itself is a green greenhouse with constant temperature and humidity, providing green landscape experience in all seasons. These planting areas are in stark contrast to the four seasons of the outside landscape. At the same time, this group of landscape architecture will become a new landmark of the area and the city. At the lower part of the observation tower, there is a vertical green and a square for citizens to participate in leisure.

Design details:

Circulation system: The transmission pipe simulates a biological meridian to transfer nutrients from the bottom up, while the solar panel at the top absorbs energy and converts it into greenhouse heat. The underground of the plaza also has the function of rainwater collection and purification, and the sustainable upward transport of nutrients and water, so that the whole can form a self-circulating system.

Double membrane skin:

The outer and outer layers of skin form a hollow skeleton structure. The outer layer absorbs moisture from the surrounding atmosphere and effectively prevents dust from the outside traffic circle. The middle layer grows algae, which transport nutrients through metal veins in the middle of the glass layer. When the internal humidity is reduced to the minimum standard, the sprinkler system will automatically run and humidify, so as to ensure the temperature and humidity of the room.
