About

Albert Company Olmo is a humanitarian shelter specialist, graduating from Building Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is interested in how architecture and engineering can contribute to humanitarian aid in the field. He has worked in South East Asia as construction and designing consultant for Mae Tao Clinic - a community-based organization that provides free healthcare to migrants and refugees from Myanmar. Additionally, he has consulted for UNHCR and Premiere Urgence Internationale supporting several WASH, shelter and health facilities in refugee camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border. In 2012 he cofounded a.gor.a Architects, an architecture studio that promotes and implements sustainable construction techniques through responsible design. This involved preserving vernacular architecture and empowering local communities through education and construction workshops. His studio has been recognized with numerous international awards, and exhibitions such as Think Global, Build Social in Vienna and the Detail Award in 2014 in Berlin for the design and construction of Kwel Kha Baung School in Thailand. Today he combines his role as emergency shelter specialist in Vanuatu (South Pacific) for Care International and as a Water and Habitat Engineer for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
