About

She is a Portuguese architect. She studied at the Porto Fine Arts School (now University of Porto) from 1979 through 1986. She defended her PhD entitled THE ARCHITECTURE AT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LANDSCAPE at the ETSAMadrid. She teaches Architectural Design and Landscape at Escola Superior Artística do Porto. She was Director of the Course and of the Department of Architecture of this School of Arts and Architecture. From1999 through 2006 she was the curator of Architecture events at AEP - Portuguese Business Association. She is co-author of the books: Moderno Escondido; Contemporary Architecture in Portugal; Guia da Arquitectura Moderna: Porto; Urban Shapes; Contemporary Housing: Ways of Living; Arquitetura do Metro do Porto; Estádio de Braga de Eduardo Souto de Moura. She has been invited to give lectures and to participate in national and international exhibitions e.g.: Biennale de Venezia; Triennale di Milano; Cornell University, New York; Palladian Basilica, Vicenza. Moreover, she was awarded several prizes e.g.: Honorable Mention in the Andrea Palladio Award; Piranesi Prize of Slovenia Sciences and Arts Academy; Nominee Work in the FAD Awards; 1st Prize in the Competition to the Serralves Foundation Extension, with SANAA. Fernandes works with Michele Cannatà since 1984, with whom, founded the CANNATÀ & FERNANDES. They have work built in Portugal and abroad and those are published in books and architecture international magazines.
