About

Juanjo graduated from the ETSA Sevilla in 2000. After a one-year scholarship at L´École d´Architecture de Paris-la Seine in France, he established his own office SOL89 with his partner María González (1975). Their work has received several recognitions as the Silver Medal of the Fassa Bortolo Prize from Italy, the Wienerberger 1st Prize from Austria, the Silver Medal of the Fritz-Höger Preis from Germany, the Grand Prix Philippe Rotthier of European Architecture from Belgium, 1st prize in the X Enor Young Architecture Award from Spain and the 40under40 prize of the Chicago Athenaeum for European architects. Sol89 has been nominated for the European Union Prize Mies van der Rohe Award. They has been invited to participate in several Architectural Biennales and were part of the Spanish pavilion in the XV Biennale di Venezia, winner of the Golden Lion in 2016. Juanjo is Professor at the ETSA Seville since 2005 and he has been invited as guest professor in juries and critical sessions at the University of Notre Dame of Beirut, Polytechnic University of Bratislava, Kingston University of London, Catholic University of Santiago de Chile, Hochschule Luzern Technik & Architektur from Swiss, Universidade da Beira Interior from Portugal and at most Schools of Architecture from Spain. He is a founding member of the academic journal PPA, indexed in Scopus and Avery, and author of Proyectos Encontrados (Recolectores Urbanos, 2012) as well as El dibujo del mundo (Lampreave, 2014).
