An entry is only in front of a juror once the UNI team has accepted it at review and placed it on that competition's evaluation panel. Jurors do not browse the whole field. The panel is a filtered list, and an entry that is not on it is missing from every screen a juror sees. Nothing on your entry card announces which side of that line you are on.
Nothing is judged until work is connected to the entry
Registering creates an entry. It does not attach anything to it. Until you connect a project, journal or publication there is nothing for a juror to open, and the entry card does not even show a Status chip. Most entries that are never judged are in exactly this state: registered, never submitted. Connect your work before the submission deadline. Once that date passes you cannot attach anything. What each status means for judging
Once work is attached, your entry card on uni.xyz/profile/edit/{your-username}/competitions carries a Status chip.
- Received. The entry has not been through the review pass yet. It is not on the panel. This is also the one state that the competition's own announcement emails skip: an entry left at Received gets neither the shortlist email nor the results email.
- Approved. The entry passed review. Approval on its own does not put it on the panel. Approved covers both entries that are on the panel and entries that are not, and the chip does not separate the two.
- Rejected. The entry was not accepted for review, and it is never on the panel. The rejection email lists the reasons recorded against it.
- Under Evaluation and Results Declared. The entry is on the panel.
Review is done by people, on the competition's schedule
No automatic check sets any of this. A member of the UNI team sets each entry's status by hand, often for a whole competition at once. Your entry joins the panel as soon as its own status is set, not at some later stage: marking the competition's shortlist stage complete is what sends the jurors their email, and entries are already waiting for them by then. That same moment is when jurors are emailed that the jury phase is open. There is no timer behind it and no turnaround promised anywhere in the product, so a status that has not moved is not evidence that something is wrong with your entry.
How to tell whether your entry was actually scored
Open the entry's Analytics page from your competitions page. It becomes available once the submission deadline has passed.
- If at least one juror scored the entry, a Jury Evaluation Summary appears, showing how many jurors scored it, the criteria and the average.
- If no juror ever scored it, that section is not rendered at all.
An Analytics page with no Jury Evaluation Summary, after the competition's results are out, is the clearest answer available that the entry was not evaluated.
Not judged and not emailed are two different problems
Shortlist and results emails are selected by award type, not by whether a juror scored you. The absence of an email is therefore not proof that your entry was skipped. A small number of evaluated entries fall outside every one of those email filters and hear nothing at all. Read the Analytics page rather than your inbox.
What you can do, and by when
- While submissions are open, connect your work and check the Status chip on the card.
- If the chip reads Rejected, read the rejection email for the reasons recorded against the entry, and reply to the UNI team if those reasons do not match what you submitted.
- If your status has not moved after the competition's shortlist date has passed, contact the UNI team with the competition name and the email address on your account. There is no self-serve way to request a review, and no page that shows where your entry sits in the review queue.
