Camlica Tower by Melike Altınışık Architects Istanbul’s Futuristic Telecommunication Landmark
Camlica Tower in Istanbul, designed by Melike Altınışık Architects, is a 369m futuristic telecommunication landmark with panoramic views and innovative public spaces.
Located in the vibrant city of İstanbul, Türkiye, the Camlica Tower stands as a monumental achievement in modern architecture and engineering. Designed by the internationally acclaimed practice Melike Altınışık Architects (MAA), with offices in Istanbul and Seoul, this 369-meter-tall telecommunication tower redefines the city’s skyline while integrating advanced engineering, aesthetics, and public engagement.

Vision and Concept
Construction of the Istanbul TV & Radio Tower began in 2015 and was completed in 2020, with the tower officially opening to the public in May 2021. The design of Camlica Tower goes beyond functionality: it embodies Istanbul’s historical, cultural, and sociological identity. The tower’s dynamic silhouette changes depending on the viewer’s perspective, creating a sense of motion, rhythm, and interaction with the surrounding urban fabric.
Unlike conventional urban structures, Camlica Tower embraces an organic architectural form that harmonizes with the surrounding topography and prevailing wind directions. Its design reflects the natural landscape while establishing a symbolic dialogue with the city, making it not just a telecommunication hub but a statement of Istanbul’s evolving urban identity.

Architectural Design and Engineering
Camlica Tower’s architecture merges elegance with precision, using mathematics, geometry, and innovative engineering techniques. The tower’s core structural concept allows inhabitable spaces to radiate around the central concrete core, a unique feature in high-rise architecture. Advanced wind testing informed both the building’s stability and the optimization of the engineered façade. This approach ensures structural efficiency while supporting dynamic spatial experiences.
The tower’s engineered façade is not only visually striking but also functional, balancing aesthetic appeal with structural performance. Every architectural decision, from material selection to spatial configuration, was made with rigorous attention to both construction methodology and environmental considerations.

Public Spaces and Visitor Experience
More than a telecommunication structure, Camlica Tower functions as a space of dialogue, exploration, and public engagement. The tower features a two-story panoramic restaurant and observation deck, offering breathtaking views from Asia to Europe. Visitors can enjoy a journey along panoramic elevators that rise 180 meters, providing vertical experiences overlooking Istanbul’s historical peninsula on one side and the Black Sea coasts on the other.
Inside the entrance podium, the tower houses a public foyer, café, exhibition, and mediatic areas, designed to create memorable encounters with light, nature, and space. Futuristic interior design elements further enhance the visitor experience, offering unique perspectives and encouraging reflection on the relationship between architecture, culture, and urban life.

Collaboration and Expertise
The successful completion of Camlica Tower was made possible through collaboration with top-tier consultants and engineers:
- Structural Engineering: BALKAR
- Mechanical Engineering: Çilingiroğlu
- Electrical Engineering: HB Teknik
- Vertical Circulation: 3TEK
- Acoustic Design: Pro-Plan
- Lighting Design: Realities United, Darklighting
- Quantity Surveying: Entegre Project Management
The synergy between these experts ensured that Camlica Tower not only meets functional telecommunication needs but also sets a new benchmark for urban architecture in Istanbul.

A Landmark for Istanbul
Since its opening, Camlica Tower has become an iconic landmark, attracting visitors from around the world. It embodies a forward-looking vision of urban development while celebrating Istanbul’s rich history and culture. Its combination of innovative design, structural mastery, and immersive public spaces makes Camlica Tower a model of futuristic architecture and sustainable urban integration.
