Located in the heart of Hanoi, Vietnam, the Khai Son Duo Penthouse by Idee Architects reimagines urban family living by merging two adjacent penthouses into a singular, cohesive residence. Spanning 600 m², this project was completed in 2025 and designed for a young family seeking openness, light, and fluid connectivity across multiple floors.

The penthouse features a central circulation spine that organizes the layout, separating primary functional areas from complementary spaces, while offering expansive city views. At either end, a rectilinear staircase and a sculptural spiral staircase create seamless vertical movement between floors, enhancing both accessibility and spatial drama.

A standout feature is the double-height voids that punctuate the interior. The first void houses a generous living room, creating a bright, airy atmosphere ideal for family gatherings. The second serves as an indoor garden, extending from the dining and kitchen zones to the private bedroom areas. Linear forms in the living room and tall interior trees reinforce vertical continuity, establishing an open, playful, and light-filled environment for children and adults alike.

Materiality plays a central role in defining the penthouse’s aesthetic. Rough travertine stone surfaces contrast elegantly with metallic accents, achieving a balance between raw texture and refined detail. Expansive glazing and integrated terraces connect interior spaces to the surrounding urban panorama, enhancing daylight penetration and promoting a sense of indoor-outdoor living.

The design language emphasizes modern luxury with bold, clean lines, while creating intimate, family-oriented spaces that encourage interaction, creativity, and comfort. Each element—from sculptural staircases to the indoor garden—reflects a commitment to spatial fluidity, openness, and elevated living experiences.
