Modern Barn Conversion: A Seamless Blend of Tradition and Innovation at Casa ID
Explore Casa ID by Archiplanstudio, a modern barn conversion blending historical architecture with contemporary design in Guastalla, Italy.
Nestled in the heart of Guastalla, Italy, the Casa ID by Archiplanstudio exemplifies a perfect modern barn conversion, where the charm of rustic architecture meets contemporary design. This 280 m² project, completed in 2023, was led by architects Diego Cisi, Stefano Gorni Silvestrini, Jacopo Rettondini, Oreste Sanese, Francesca Brescia, and Alfonsina Benetti, with stunning photographs captured by Simone Marcolin.

Preserving the Past: The Architectural Vision
Exterior Design and Structure
The Casa ID's exterior retains the barn's original silhouette, incorporating modern elements such as large windows and minimalistic facades that complement its rural surroundings. The architects' strategy to integrate the building's historical aspects with modern windows and facades highlights the timeless beauty of a modern barn conversion.

Interior Spatial Dynamics
On the ground floor, the design transcends traditional living spaces by creating a large, open void defined by carefully chosen furnishings that mark the communal areas. These elements not only optimize the living space but also pay homage to the barn’s original utilitarian purpose.

Incorporating Modern Elements in a Historic Framework
Innovative Use of Materials
The choice of materials plays a pivotal role in blending the old with the new. The interior walls retain their plaster in a state of decay, a deliberate choice that adds sensuality to the walls and embodies the abstract concept of time, essential in modern barn conversions.

Functional Design Elements
Upstairs, a large wardrobe doubles as a retaining wall and a threshold to the private quarters, showcasing the multifunctional design strategies typical of modern barn conversions. This feature not only serves a practical purpose but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space.

The Essence of Modern Barn Conversion
Casa ID by Archiplanstudio stands as a testament to the possibilities inherent in modern barn conversions. It exemplifies how historical structures can be transformed into breathtaking contemporary homes without sacrificing their soul. This project not only provides a functional living space but also preserves a piece of architectural heritage, making it a landmark of modern barn conversion in Guastalla, Italy.
