Modern Concrete House Design: Amankay House by Di Frenna Arquitectos in Mexico
Amankay House by Di Frenna Arquitectos showcases modern concrete house design, blending raw materials with lush greenery for a harmonious living experience.
Amankay House, designed by Di Frenna Arquitectos, is a striking example of modern concrete house design located in Ciudad de Villa de Álvarez, Mexico. Spanning 475 m², the residence blends raw materials with lush greenery, offering a calm yet powerful architectural presence that harmonizes with its natural surroundings.

A Slow Arrival Through Nature
Approaching Amankay House is a serene experience. Stone steps ascend through dense vegetation, guiding visitors gently toward the entrance. On one side, a towering tree stands as a natural landmark, while on the other, a vertical architectural volume responds with balance. The house does not impose itself suddenly; instead, it emerges gradually, shaded and softened by foliage.

A Horizontal Concrete Composition
The home’s facade embodies the essence of modern concrete house design. A continuous band of exposed concrete stretches across the exterior, framing the upper floor between two horizontal planes. Integrated planters run along this line, adding greenery that seems to return a portion of the land to nature. This gesture gives the structure firmness without rigidity, merging architecture with landscape.

Interior Spaces of Light and Shadow
Upon entering, the sculptural staircase becomes the first focal point. Crafted from steel and wood, it appears to float within the space. Beneath it, a stone basin connects the indoors with the natural world outside. A soaring double-height window frames vegetation, blurring boundaries between inside and outside. Throughout the day, shifting sunlight and shadows animate the polished concrete and stone walls, creating an ever-changing atmosphere.

Material Palette: Raw and Refined
The materiality defines the character of Amankay House. Polished concrete, stone, and steel establish structural strength, while warm wooden details—seen in doors, ceilings, and furniture—introduce balance. The monochromatic palette emphasizes neutrality, allowing natural elements such as greenery, light, and air to become the true protagonists of the living experience.

A Courtyard at the Heart
The design centers on a rear courtyard that organizes the social areas. The kitchen and terrace open fully to the outdoors, establishing a seamless flow between interior and exterior. A few steps create subtle spatial transitions, offering privacy without complete separation. Here, vegetation acts as a living wall, filtering views while preserving openness.

Upper Level: Intimacy Among Greenery
The upper floor contains the private bedrooms. Even in these intimate spaces, nature is ever-present. Each room opens directly onto terraces or patios, with greenery filtering light and views into every corner. Instead of resisting the natural environment, the architecture embraces it, allowing plants and air to flow freely.

Amankay House by Di Frenna Arquitectos is an architectural statement of strength and subtlety. As an outstanding example of modern concrete house design, it balances raw materiality with lush vegetation, crafting a home where architecture and nature coexist in harmony. Its honesty in form, texture, and connection to the site makes it a timeless residential design in contemporary Mexico.
