Transforming Traditional Homes with Thoughtful Renovation

Peaches Besares is a remarkable renovation and extension project located in the vibrant Buenos Aires neighborhood of Saavedra. Nestled within a low-rise residential area, this project responds to a context of mixed long-time residents and newcomers who enjoy the nearby active parkland. The neighborhood’s character, defined by modest houses and few consolidated buildings, inspired IR arquitectura to design a home that balances privacy, openness, and functionality.

Preserving History, Expanding Possibilities

The original structure consisted of two one-bedroom units on the ground floor, built with classic load-bearing masonry and vaulted ceilings. While charming, the original design created small, fragmented interiors with limited openings to the street. The renovation strategy focused on maximizing spatial potential where natural light and ventilation were favorable, creating a sense of openness without compromising the integrity of the existing construction.

Dynamic Living Across Levels

The redesign prioritizes public and dynamic spaces on the upper floors, organized within simple volumes that define the corner of the property. By strategically positioning these volumes and choosing material treatments carefully, IR arquitectura creates a sequence of spaces with varying atmospheres—balancing openness, privacy, and functionality throughout the home.

Private Outdoor Terraces

Outdoor spaces were transformed using micro-perforated corrugated sheets that enclose terraces while maintaining a sense of lightness and privacy. Living areas feature windows of different sizes that interact with the street subtly, filtering views and light while reinforcing a connection to the surrounding urban environment. This approach results in interconnected interiors that flexibly adapt to daily life, natural conditions, and the occupants’ needs.

Prefabrication & Craftsmanship

The extension was prefabricated off-site using steel frame structures, then carefully assembled on-site. Existing structural elements, including metal reinforcements and a large transition beam supporting the cantilever, were integrated seamlessly. Connections between new and existing elements, as well as carpentry details, were crafted artisanally, ensuring texture, material neutrality, and visual continuity throughout the renovation.
