PNNY Bites by Atelier 5758: A Symmetrical Interior Blending Nostalgia, Craft, and Contemporary Dining in Bali
Symmetrical pastel-toned restaurant interior featuring dragon pillars, vintage furniture, local artwork, and handcrafted materials blending nostalgia with contemporary dining culture.
A Playful Restaurant Interior in Kecamatan Kuta Utara, Indonesia
PNNY Bites, designed by Atelier 5758, is a vibrant restaurant and bar located in Kecamatan Kuta Utara, Indonesia. Completed in 2024, the 200-square-meter interior presents a carefully choreographed spatial composition that merges pastel palettes, handcrafted details, and cultural storytelling. Conceived as a contemporary dining space infused with nostalgic charm, the project explores symmetry, material expression, and local artistry to create a memorable hospitality experience.

Symmetry as a Spatial Framework
The design is organized around a symmetrical layout, allowing each viewpoint within the restaurant to unfold as a balanced visual tableau. This compositional strategy enhances spatial clarity while amplifying the theatrical presence of four towering dragon pillars that anchor the interior. These sculptural elements establish a strong focal point, guiding movement through the space and reinforcing the restaurant’s distinctive identity.

Pastel colors dominate the interior palette, softening the bold architectural gestures and creating an inviting atmosphere. Vintage furniture selections introduce a sense of familiarity and warmth, while quirky design accents add personality and playful contrast. Together, these elements produce an interior that feels both curated and approachable, bridging contemporary dining culture with retro-inspired aesthetics.

Materiality and Crafted Surfaces
Material selection plays a central role in shaping the tactile and visual character of PNNY Bites. Wood veneer, solid wood, stainless steel sheets, ceramic tiles, wallpaper, and acrylic surfaces are layered throughout the interior, creating a nuanced interplay between texture, reflection, and color. This material composition supports the restaurant’s eclectic design language while maintaining durability suited to a high-traffic hospitality environment.

One of the most distinctive features of the space is the custom-fabricated bar tabletop, produced on-site using a refined combination of epoxy and resin. Executed during active construction, the process required careful control to maintain a dust-free environment, highlighting the precision and craftsmanship involved in delivering bespoke interior elements.

Local Artistry and Cultural Expression
Art and craftsmanship are deeply embedded in the design narrative. Columns, walls, and dining table surfaces are adorned with artwork created by local painters, transforming architectural elements into expressive canvases. These artistic interventions introduce layers of storytelling and reinforce the restaurant’s connection to its local context.
A striking dragon sculpture, meticulously crafted by a local artisan, further enriches the interior with cultural symbolism and sculptural presence. Integrated seamlessly into the spatial composition, the dragon serves as both an artistic centerpiece and a cultural reference, grounding the contemporary design within Indonesian craft traditions.

A Contemporary Dining Experience Rooted in Nostalgia
PNNY Bites exemplifies a thoughtful approach to restaurant interior design, where symmetry, material experimentation, and local craftsmanship converge. The project successfully balances nostalgia and modernity, offering a dining environment that feels immersive, expressive, and timeless. By blending pastel hues, handcrafted details, and cultural artistry, Atelier 5758 has created a restaurant interior that resonates with both the memory of the past and the expectations of contemporary hospitality design.
