The Q U A D R O S House is a contemporary residential project designed by gruta.arquitetos to accommodate a dynamic family of five. Situated on a 620 m² plot within a gated community in Bauru, Brazil, the home reflects a sophisticated approach to family-centered living, blending functionality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. The design carefully balances private and social areas while promoting integration between the indoor and outdoor environments.

Design Concept and Spatial Planning

The architects focused on spatial fluidity and compartmentalization to comply with mandatory setbacks while creating versatile social spaces. By consolidating private areas into a longitudinal block, the layout establishes a clear organizational hierarchy, providing both privacy and openness where needed. This arrangement became the starting point for the architectural narrative, allowing natural light and circulation to define the character of the house.

The family’s active lifestyle—spanning music, visual arts, and gastronomy—drove the creation of a permeable social environment. Spaces were designed to accommodate simultaneous activities, fostering interaction without compromising individual functionality. A central clearing featuring a jabuticaba tree serves as the heart of the home, connecting the office/studio, living room/music room, and the kitchen/barbecue area. This design strategy encourages movement and engagement, transitioning seamlessly to the backyard, which hosts a pool and a TV lounge.

A key architectural feature is the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling windows, replacing traditional lateral walls. This not only invites the garden into the interior but also extends living spaces outward, effectively blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments. The connection with nature is reinforced by carefully chosen materials, including natural textures and pure surfaces, creating a subtle dialogue between built elements and the surrounding landscape.

The Q U A D R O S House features a lower height standard compared to neighboring structures, enhancing visual permeability and creating an unobstructed sequence of spaces.
