Residência FE: A Masterpiece of Modern Brazilian Architecture
The article details the architectural and design solutions for Residência FE, a modern home tailored to a challenging Brazilian landscape.
Residência FE, designed by Telles Arquitetura, stands as a quintessential example of modern Brazilian architecture. Located in Brazil, this home seamlessly blends innovative design with functional living spaces, addressing the challenges posed by its unique site geometry and landscape.

Design Challenges and Solutions
Site Geometry and Layout
The narrow and long lot geometry presented a significant challenge. The primary focus was to utilize the beautiful landscape at the back of the property, making it the focal point of the family living area.
H2: Strategic Layout for Optimal Living To maximize the use of space, the house program was designed with two distinct wings:
- Private Wing: Positioned towards the east and close to the street, housing the bedrooms.
- Living Area: Situated at the back, facing the landscape to ensure the family can enjoy the scenic views.

Integration with the Landscape
H2: Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Transition An internal circulation strip was introduced, linking the front and back of the property. This strip functions as a suspended courtyard, integrating landscaping with the house's interior, creating a harmonious transition between different spaces.

Construction and Topography
H2: Respecting the Natural Topography Balancing the desire for a single-level house with the land's natural slope, the construction strategically alternates between being directly on the natural topography and elevated from the ground. This approach minimizes earthmoving, reduces construction costs, and creates shaded areas under the raised slab.

Roof Design and Climate Considerations
H2: Innovative Roof Design The sloped metal roof, oriented north-south, shelters the entire house:
- North Side: Features a generous overhang on the balcony facing the landscape, providing shade and reducing direct sunlight.
- South Side: Offers a high ceiling for the bedrooms and garage, accommodating plumbing and other equipment.

Materials and Aesthetics
H2: Sustainable and Aesthetic Choices Residência FE incorporates sustainable materials and aesthetic elements to enhance its modern design:
- Materials: Utilizes Kingspan Insulated Panels, Gerdau Açominas steel, and Portobello tiles.
- Aesthetics: The design includes a mix of natural and industrial elements, creating a cohesive and modern look.

Residência FE by Telles Arquitetura exemplifies modern Brazilian architecture through its innovative design, strategic use of space, and seamless integration with the natural landscape. This project not only addresses the unique challenges of its site but also provides a functional and aesthetically pleasing living environment.
