Roble Huacho House by Hebra Arquitectos is an elevated forest home in Chile, blending warmth, light, cypress wood, and panoramic natural views.
Nestled in the serene forests of Futrono, Chile, the Roble Huacho House by Hebra Arquitectos (2023) is a striking example of modern residential architecture harmoniously integrated with nature. Designed for a married couple: a sculptor and a psychologist: this home balances functional living, warmth, and a deep connection to its forest surroundings, while accommodating visits from their two children.


Concept and Design Strategy
Originally conceived as a second residence with potential for future expansion, the project was planned in two phases. A regular grid system over two levels was proposed to organize the home's growth, starting with an elevated structure and eventually expanding below ground level to form a solid plinth. However, the onset of the pandemic inspired the clients to transform it into their primary residence, prompting both phases to be constructed simultaneously.
This presented the challenge of creating a home that stood apart from local architecture while remaining comfortable, functional, and warm. The solution involved a metal structure supported by concrete cores, elevating the first level to create a sheltered reception area below that protects from the rain. The second level houses luminous interiors designed for both contemplation and family gathering, featuring large sliding panels that open onto a deck with immersive views of the surrounding forest. The roof, visually detached from the walls through a reticulated beam system, emphasizes lightness and structural elegance.


Architectural Features
Three main objectives shaped the elevated design of the house:
- Avoiding humidity from the forest floor
- Maximizing natural light in the interiors
- Capturing panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes
The exterior features cypress wood screens that provide privacy on faces exposed to more public areas, while expansive glass walls face interior courtyards to welcome abundant daylight. The combination of natural materials, transparent surfaces, and elevated positioning fosters a seamless connection between indoor comfort and forest immersion.


Materials and Construction
The house uses a refined palette of materials selected for durability and aesthetic warmth, including cypress wood, concrete, metal structures, and advanced fixtures from manufacturers such as Neolith, Boch, Bosch, FDV, Hbt, MK, and Teka. Every detail emphasizes sustainability, comfort, and harmony with the natural environment.
