Swatantra Residence: A Concrete Masterpiece for Multigenerational Living in Agra
Swatantra Residence in Agra merges multigenerational living with concrete artistry, sustainable design, and modern architectural principles for holistic family living.
Swatantra Residence, designed by Spaces Architects@ka, stands as a striking example of contemporary residential architecture in Agra, India. Completed in 2023, this 15,000 ft² home elegantly blends minimalism, brutalism, and modernism, creating a sophisticated, inward-looking residence for three generations. The client envisioned a home where spaces remain interconnected, reflecting the unity of family while celebrating art, design, and the expressive potential of concrete.

Spatial Organization and Interior Design
The residence is centered around a triple-height courtyard, forming the heart of the home and allowing natural light and greenery to permeate all levels. The ground floor hosts major public areas with strategically designed cut-outs that create visual connections between spaces. Balconies are thoughtfully integrated, framing exterior greenery as an extension of the interiors, while preserving privacy through pre-existing trees surrounding the site.
The upper floors cater to private family living, featuring lounges and bedrooms designed exclusively for family members. A double-height balcony with perforated screens enhances spatial layering, offering intimacy while maintaining openness. The terrace level is dedicated to recreation, including a jacuzzi, open seating areas, and multifunctional halls, seamlessly combining luxury and relaxation.

Concrete as Art and Structure
Concrete serves as the primary material throughout the home, acting both as structure and as an artistic medium. Bold pigments, textured surfaces, and sculptural forms highlight the versatility of this material, while furniture, lighting, and curated artwork further enrich the spatial experience. Every detail has been carefully orchestrated to accentuate the interplay between material, light, and form.

Sustainable Features and Green Integration
Sustainability is central to the design. Solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and thoughtfully planned green spaces make the residence environmentally conscious while fulfilling the functional needs of its inhabitants. Greens are not only aesthetic elements but operational features that enhance ventilation, natural cooling, and privacy.

Exterior Expression and Architectural Identity
The front elevation of Swatantra Residence reflects the interior’s artistic narrative, with jali screens and circular cut-outs creating a dynamic and interactive façade. By blending minimalism, modernism, and brutalist principles, the design challenges conventional residential norms, producing a home that is both visually striking and deeply private.
Swatantra Residence exemplifies how multigenerational homes can combine sustainability, material experimentation, and architectural innovation while preserving familial intimacy and privacy.
