Kevin Scholtes

I transitioned from a career in the fine arts as a stage designer to a career in aerospace engineering seven years ago. Straddling those two worlds has taught me to be open to and seek out unorthodox design methodologies built around intensely collaborative and creative environments. There's no reason the process of design cannot be as vibrant and colorful for engineering as it is for the arts. As an aerospace engineer, I have seen this first-hand through the invaluable experience of working with small teams on rapid spacecraft formulation, nano-satellite development, model-based-systems-engineering, and launch vehicle design. It's thrilling to support any design-focused project that contributes to our future in space, builds on the success of an interdisciplinary team, and delivers a product that is both a challenge and an inspiration. Currently I dedicate the majority of my time as a lead engineer to the development of the booster stage for the Firefly Alpha launch vehicle.
