Mark Aspinall

Mark Aspinall is a British-born sculptor and multidisciplinary artist based in Crotone, Italy, with over 35 years of professional practice. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London (Ceramic Design, 1986-89), his work spans ceramics, stainless steel construction, traditional iron forging, hot and cold glass, stone carving, and acrylic fabrication. His artistic philosophy centers on the transportability of understanding and abilities across material fields and manufacturing methods, guided by a continual research into personal aesthetic development. This approach has led to a diverse body of work exhibited internationally, from NordArt in Germany to the Cairo International Biennial, and installations at Spazio Thetis in Venice. Mark's work is held in contemporary art museums in Cairo, Castellamonte, Gualdo Tadino, and Santa Severina, and in public collections across Italy and Austria. He has received commissions from organizations including Arup Associates (London), Solar Century, and Fondazione Igino Betti (Rome), and was awarded the Cairo International Biennial youth prize (1996) and the Umberto Zanotti Bianco prize from Italia Nostra (2016). As an educator, he has lectured in Ceramics at Manchester Metropolitan University (1991-93) and in Scenography at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Crotone (2007). In 2019, he presented "MatemArte" at the Pythagoras Museum, exploring the symbiosis of mathematical principles and creative aesthetics in art and design.
