Mateja Vehovar

Slovenian born Mateja Vehovar graduated in architecture at ETH Zurich. She rounded off her education at Columbia University in New York, where her Master Thesis achieved the “Honor Award for Excellency in Design”. After working for offices such as Theo Hotz, Bernhard Tschumi, and Studio Asymptote, she established her own practice while teaching architecture and urbanism with Marc Angélil at the ETH Zurich. She was board member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects. Besides her practical activity she has been member of numerous competition juries In 1996 Mateja Vehovar and Stefan Jauslin established their studio Vehovar & Jauslin in Zurich. They have been working on a wide range of assignments in Switzerland and abroad in the fields of architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, scenography, and urban lighting schemes since. Their projects have often attracted international attention beyond the professional world. Among their best-known projects are the Swiss National Exhibition Expo.02 “Arteplage Yverdon-les-Bains”, the “Sihlcity Church”, the “space for contemplation” in Boldern, the square “Urteilsplatz” in Lahr, or the multi-award-winning bus terminal in Aarau, realizing the world's largest air-supported structure consisting of a single chamber. Their work received several awards around the world. For their cooperative interdisciplinary approach, which was innovative at the time, they were awarded the Swiss Art Prize from the Swiss Confederation back in 1999.
