About

Zsolt VASÁROS (born 1973) is a Hungarian architect. He studied architecture, archaeology, and Egyptology, graduated from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Faculty of Architecture with a diploma in 1997. In 2000 he established his own practice (Narmer Architecture Studio). Known for innovative designs and projects for museums, archaeological and natural environments. He obtained the doctor title in 2005, in 2003, he became a teacher at BME Faculty of Architecture. In 2015 he founded the Hassan Fathy Survey Mission. Zsolt Vasáros is currently working on several research project in Hungary and in the Middle East.

OASIS OF CULTURE

What is an oasis? According to the dictionary it means ?a pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult or hectic place or situation?. We build up our design concept around this oasis theme. We want to create a place where the local people can find peace and happiness in their present chaotic everyday life.

This is reflected in the form, the landscape, and the chosen materials. A gallery that tells the story of their history and culture.

The Art Center will be the gateway to Aleppo Castle, which include concert hall,music institute ,200 underground parking,green terrace and plaza.

WALKWAY TO MEMORY

A path to introduce visitors to the history of Aleppo, orient them to the Citadel and emphasize the meeting point to the architectural and cultural complex of the old city. A light structured museum and a public exhibition intervened as an informing and expressive space. Simultaneously, Walkway To Memory allows the user to live the past for moments.

DOME X OPEN MARKET

Our project has two main elements, a dome and an open market. A dome marks the site of the Old City of Aleppo where the reviving of the city begins by the continuously evolving market.

Learning Centre

This memorial site commemorates the ruining of Aleppo with an underground learning centre and a park above.

Layers of Memory

Our function is a community gathering place, a central plaza, which also serves as a monument for the exceptionally rich and layered history of Aleppo. With our proposal we want to represent the collective memory of this ancient city, reminding its citizens that Aleppo had long endured the storm of history, and its resistance is still yet to be broken.

We believe in the necessity of retrospection, we don't want to forget, we don't want to delete the bruises, but take the lesson they teach us to build a better and wiser way of living together.
