The Cathedral of Breath
The Cathedral of Breath is an above-ground pavilion, an underwater diving experience, and a kelp farm. The theme of the Cathedral of Breath is the transition from decomposition to rebirth, which inspires visitors to rethink the role of humans in the ecosystem and the role that humans play in the larger universe. The temporal aspect of the pavilion urges it's the visitor to think about life and what will be left behind when we humans are gone. This project is named the Cathedral of Breath to reference the oxygenation systems implemented throughout the site. The word breath holds connotations for life and death, and the word cathedral holds introspective connotations. Put together, the name represents the introspection of life and our place within it. The Cathedral of Breath urges visitors to ask significant questions about life and our place as humans.
