Segregating public, making provisions for a public park and a contemplative park, the proposal looks to make such sacred spaces approachable and experiential being perceived as taboo spaces.
66Vertical Cemetery, Future of the PastGlobal population keeps expanding and what happens to the dead? In 2014 report the world birth to death ratio is 3:1 which increases to 2:1 in the year 2016. It is estimated that in 2045 the land needed for burials around the world would come to an end. There is no archetypal form for a cemetery, so this design would create one such structure.

1Tree of Life - Ecological Cemetery in ShanghaiThis sustainable system involves placing bodies in vessels containing mixture of wood chips, alfalfa and straw and injecting air into it. In a month the body will be decomposed into a nutrient-dense soil, can be used in dedicated gardens for planting memorial flowers and trees.
2ZhaohuiZhoohui, is a public park-like where only the people who lost their loved ones use as a cemetery. It provides privacy by lowering the ground and creating a new space down the trees. Every tree has a role as a tombstone. But one tree can belong to many people. Human bodies are transformed by being sperated to their molecules and this does not need any place.
6Resonanting MemoriesChallenging the established structure of cemeteries, this project envisions new ways to mourn through resonating chimes holding the ashes of the deceased. Furthermore, cemeteries are no longer exclusive and traditionally ‘private’ but rather becomes a facilitator for socialising amongst those alive, and dead.

7When they die, they die. We are using technology to make various artificial intelligence substitutes for dead people. Unavoidably, some people are addicted to the past and cannot move forward. Our design wants people to realize that the deceased no longer exists from the moment of their death, so as to respect the life of the deceased and start our new life.
1Life pathLife and death are closely connected. The life path is an endless process from birth to the moment of physical death. Our project calls to think about how transient our earthly path is and how great this path is in afterlife.
13The Hills of Shanghailooking at the cemetery as a growing system that is given time to develop and sculpt itself, becoming an iconic part of the urban fabric and an ecological hotspot.
