Marius Miclaus
Principal / President, ARCHAEUS LTD and ARCHAEUS Foundation, Romania
Marius Miclăuș is an architect. From 1997 to 2010 he helds the course of ‘Theory of Architecture’ at the Faculty of Architecture in Timișoara / Romania. In 2014 he collaborates, as a guest teacher, with Sapienza University, in Rome in 2017 at Anhalt (Bauhaus) Dessau School of architecture and in 2018 in UAUIM Bucharest. Between 2004 and 2008 he was the vice-president of the Architects Union in Romania. He coordinates, since 1996, the architecture studio ‘Archaeus’, winning different architecture and urbanism competitions, both national and international, the works being published in Romania, Germany, Spain, India, Slovakia, Greece, China etc. In 2010 he founded ‘Archaeus Foundation’, with international programs among which – ALP (alternative learning program), Sky Hill Projekt, Peripatetica, Borangic and Architec’TOOL. In 2014 he graduates the Master in Yacht Design from Politecnico University of Milan, where he was granted a scholarship. From 2014 he is involved in different European NGO’s programs in collaboration with different Universities. In 2017 he was shortlisted at European Prize for architecture / Mies van der Rohe award with the Take a(l)titude project.
Fatima Fernandes
Co-founder, CANNATÀ & FERNANDES, Portugal
She is a Portuguese architect. She studied at the Porto Fine Arts School (now University of Porto) from 1979 through 1986. She defended her PhD entitled THE ARCHITECTURE AT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LANDSCAPE at the ETSAMadrid. She teaches Architectural Design and Landscape at Escola Superior Artística do Porto. She was Director of the Course and of the Department of Architecture of this School of Arts and Architecture. From1999 through 2006 she was the curator of Architecture events at AEP - Portuguese Business Association. She is co-author of the books: Moderno Escondido; Contemporary Architecture in Portugal; Guia da Arquitectura Moderna: Porto; Urban Shapes; Contemporary Housing: Ways of Living; Arquitetura do Metro do Porto; Estádio de Braga de Eduardo Souto de Moura. She has been invited to give lectures and to participate in national and international exhibitions e.g.: Biennale de Venezia; Triennale di Milano; Cornell University, New York; Palladian Basilica, Vicenza. Moreover, she was awarded several prizes e.g.: Honorable Mention in the Andrea Palladio Award; Piranesi Prize of Slovenia Sciences and Arts Academy; Nominee Work in the FAD Awards; 1st Prize in the Competition to the Serralves Foundation Extension, with SANAA. Fernandes works with Michele Cannatà since 1984, with whom, founded the CANNATÀ & FERNANDES. They have work built in Portugal and abroad and those are published in books and architecture international magazines.
Saija Hollmén
Vice Dean for Art and Creative Practices, Aalto University, Finland
Saija Hollmén is a Professor of Practice in Humanitarian Architecture and Vice Dean for Art and Creative Practices at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She holds a doctoral degree in architecture, her research interest covering topics of cross-cultural design practices and interdisciplinary pedagogies in higher education. She is a co-founder of the interdisciplinary Aalto WiTLAB (Aalto World in Transition Research LAB), which focuses on global sustainability and humanitarian challenges. She is responsible of the Interplay of Cultures program, based at the Department of Architecture, dealing with architectural design and planning in cultures outside Europe. Hollmén is a co-founder of Hollmén Reuter Sandman Architects and Ukumbi NGO, which aims at providing architectural services for communities in need. Ukumbi has projects in several African countries, seeking to improve the lives of the less privileged. Their work has been widely exhibited, e.g, in the Venice Biennale in 2002, 2004 and 2016. Ukumbi was also awarded the Finnish State Award for Art in 2009 for its work for culturally sensitive and respectful architecture.
