Share firsthand experiences of this quarantine
Premise
Aim: Blooming a string of mindfulness and positivity through personal experiences during this quarantine.
With an avalanche of information, the news today asks for continuous attention and empathy. And in these times, it’s real we aren’t exactly living in times of utopia. In the following months when all of it is over, while recovering from this pandemic globally the society will suffer a lot from the collateral damage (Eg. Social, Mental, Economic, etc.) that will grip us all. And in times like these, a need for a sense of community empathy becomes even more heightened. And art enables that.
Art has always been utilized as a vital tool of creativity during times of pandemic. To entertain, to console, to connect and give voices to those unheard.
More than ever, we humans are in need of connection especially while practicing voluntary distancing. To believe that we aren’t alone and there are many resonating with the same thoughts, pain, and doubts. Many of us must have stumbled upon people going live and us too sharing our stories on media platforms like Instagram/Facebook/VK etc. People sing, cook, dance and entertain in whatever way possible. The need to hear and tell stories of humanity even stronger than ever.
This 'Call for Ideas Exercise' is to build a space for a positive and uplifting dialogue during this worldwide pandemic. The intent is to endure isolation in these testing times while bringing positivity, well being, empathy and mindfulness collectively to our daily lives through an online community.
Stories Space
The written word is the human kind’s most powerful tool. Stories, thoughts, memories create a record of ourselves and our experiences that may find resonance in an individual sitting miles away from us. One gets instantly transported into their thoughts and the integration brings hope within the community. This space is for those written experiences where creatives like you can share their writing.
This is only a week long quick think-submit exercise.
The deliverable is a 500 word (maximum) story writeup along with a title of the article. These can be sent either via email (social@uni.xyz) or a direct message. You can share a few pictures along with your text that support your story. There is no entry fee or eligibility criteria. Anyone can submit their story that can spread something uplifting through this ever growing community of creatives we are building here.
(You can send longer stories but you might want to break them in parts to boost retention)
Some of the primary questions we are inviting dialogues in this cycle's exercise are:
-
How are you spending your time in quarantine?
-
What ‘new’ have you learnt during this period of time?
-
How are your peers in the city doing?
-
What do you think governments are doing wrongly/rightly?
-
What can they do better?
-
How can architects and designers help?
-
How can we do something small today that can make a difference tomorrow?
-
How to survive this quarantine? etc
and the list just begins here. You can frame your own questions based on the themes above. There are no binding criterions.
Who am I writing for?
Well, the stories are completely for the audience of Uni and the design community world wide. The write up should be more of a personal account rather than a formal announcement or formal descriptive answer. DO NOT write for the editorial team, but write for the audiences who will be reading your story. Uni editorial is only handling moderation in this exercise.
The submission for this cycle closes on 10th April 2020. We will continue/conclude the cycle based on the responses we receive.
