Blake Belanger
Associate Professor, Landscape Architecture
Blake Belanger is a landscape architect and urban designer with over twenty years of combined experience in professional practice and academia. He joined Kansas State University in 2007, where he teaches design studios, seminars and lecture courses to students across the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. He leads or co-leads community planning and design classes that engage communities in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado. The resulting student work has been honored with over a dozen awards from regional chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Planning Association. He has also received teaching recognitions at the college and national levels, including the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture Excellence in Design Studio Teaching Award. Professor Belanger holds a Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University and a dual Master’s of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Colorado at Denver, where he was lead designer for the winning team of the 2005 ULI / Hines Urban Design Competition. In addition to courses on landscape architecture and urban design, Professor Belanger teaches Unlocking Creativity, a university-wide elective designed to equip students with methods for generating creative ideas and the confidence to find their inherent genius. Professor Belanger’s scholarship focuses on urban resilience, graphic representation, and the creative design process.
