Apartment SL by BRH+ – A Masterpiece of Contemporary Apartment Renovation in Turin
Apartment SL by BRH+ in Turin merges 19th-century heritage with contemporary design, showcasing custom interiors, restored frescoes, and modern energy solutions.
Apartment SL by BRH+ is a stunning example of contemporary interior architecture and meticulous apartment renovation in Turin, Italy. Located in the historic Palazzo Pucci Baudana, this 300 m² residence combines 19th-century elegance with modern design sensibilities. Designed by Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò of BRH+, the project harmonizes the rich heritage of Turin’s architectural identity with innovative solutions to meet modern energy and functional standards.

A Dialogue Between History and Contemporary Design
The renovation of Apartment SL redefines the relationship between past and present. BRH+ approached the project as a “design laboratory,” balancing the historic character of the 1841 building with the needs of a contemporary art-collecting family. The interior design pays homage to the original 19th-century features while introducing custom-made furniture, refined materials, and tailored solutions that highlight the owners' extensive art collection.

Vaulted ceilings adorned with restored frescoes, national walnut parquet flooring, and seminato floors have been preserved and enhanced. At the same time, innovative plant engineering systems were discreetly integrated to elevate the apartment’s thermal and energy efficiency without disrupting its historical value.

Custom-Made Interiors and Art Integration
The entrance sets the tone for the home’s artistic narrative. Painted in an intense octanium hue, it features a bold polychrome fresco by contemporary artist Victoria Stoian. Custom wall furniture seamlessly integrates display units for artwork with concealed storage, creating a fluid balance between function and aesthetics.

In the living and dining areas, the grandeur of the vaulted ceilings is complemented by curated furnishings and refined lighting that highlight both the restored decorations and modern elements. Each space has been carefully orchestrated to reflect the owners’ passion for contemporary art while respecting the building’s architectural heritage.

The Kitchen as a Sculptural Element
The kitchen, designed with sartorial precision, is a highlight of the renovation. Custom cabinetry crafted from Alpi Smoked Oak is paired with Velvet Onyx panels, arranged to showcase the natural continuity of the stone’s veining. This sculptural kitchen design merges functionality with material sophistication, creating a space that is as visually striking as it is practical.

Spatial Flow and Concealed Functionality
The transition from the social spaces to the private areas is defined by a corridor lined with built-in furniture, merging natural wood and stone surfaces. These custom-designed elements incorporate lighting and functional storage while concealing doors and service rooms, maintaining a seamless aesthetic flow throughout the home.

Bathrooms and Bedrooms – Luxury in Detail
The bathrooms showcase the expressive potential of marble and onyx, with handcrafted surfaces provided by the renowned Turin company Sommo Marmi. Each bathroom is designed as a luxurious, tactile experience, featuring refined cuts and vibrant color palettes.

The bedrooms are defined by bespoke furnishings that cater to different needs and moods. The son’s bedroom features custom grey briarwood furniture and a unique version of Listone Giordano’s Biscuit parquet flooring. A discovered wall niche was transformed into a suspended alcove, adding character and depth to the space.

Sustainable Restoration and Energy Efficiency
One of the key aspects of this renovation is the integration of modern energy performance measures while preserving the apartment’s historical identity. Original parquet flooring was carefully removed, restored, and repositioned to accommodate new pipework. Window frames underwent meticulous restoration to enhance their thermal insulation, ensuring that the home meets contemporary energy efficiency standards without compromising its heritage.

A Contemporary Tribute to Turin’s Heritage
Apartment SL by BRH+ is a perfect fusion of historical restoration and modern apartment design. It reflects the architects’ commitment to blending cultural heritage with functional innovation, creating a residence that feels both timeless and modern. This project stands as a benchmark for luxury apartment renovation in Turin, demonstrating how thoughtful design can honor the past while embracing the future.
