Cabane ABC / Atelier Toboggan, a creative agency specializing in web design and development
Top design studio specializing in tobogganing.
The collective known as L'atelier Toboggan is made up of three recent graduates from the school of architecture in Nantes. They currently operate their workshops in Redon, Brittany. Their first project as a collective was the design and construction of the Cabane ABC.
We have adapted our vehicles to be able to carry the materials needed for our construction projects. This allows us to be fully dedicated during the construction process. The building site becomes an opportunity for us to share moments together and get to know the project owner better. We spend most of the construction time living in light housing on the owner's land. This month and a half of "co-location" allowed us to share some great moments together and learn more about her project to open a place of reception and conviviality.
The land is home to many species of plants and trees that the owner has carefully selected. She has patiently transformed this monoculture field into a garden mixing undergrowth, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden. We worked with her to design a small refuge that would take place there. The owner wanted an off-grid space that could accommodate two to four people. Inside there is a large work surface, a sitting area, storage space, and a bed for two people.
The cabin is supported by acacia stilts driven into the ground, and the framework is held together with tie rods. This system is repeated in the pergola that surrounds the cabin. The cladding provides a visual continuity between the facade and roof, and the gables are covered with corrugated sheet metal.
The cladding creates a visual connection between the facade and roof, with the gables being covered in corrugated metal sheets. We used unsold woodwork to create the facade, choosing pieces that fit well together. The plates on the northern front come from an old aviary that belonged to the owner's father.
