Casa Bayo: Modular Mountain Retreat in San Clemente, Argentina

Located at the foot of the Los Gigantes mountain range in San Clemente, Córdoba, Casa Bayo is a thoughtfully designed 40 m² modular house with an additional 22 m² of semi-covered space. Designed by Set.ideas under lead architect Carlos Arias Yadarola, the project prioritizes efficient spatial planning, constructive efficiency, and harmony with its natural surroundings.

The house is strategically positioned on a gently sloping site, where the panoramic view of the mountains becomes a central element in the spatial layout. The interior is divided into two functional zones: the southwest hosts wet rooms and storage areas, while the northeast integrates the living and dining spaces, offering uninterrupted views toward the peaks. This zoning maximizes both privacy and natural light while maintaining a seamless connection with the landscape.

In terms of materiality, the exterior combines a robust stone plinth with a continuous sheet metal envelope, ensuring durability, low maintenance, and visual coherence with the natural terrain. Inside, warm pine wood dominates the interior, creating a cozy, rustic ambiance that evokes the simplicity and charm of a traditional country home.

For construction, SIP panels (structural insulated panels with injected polyurethane) were chosen to simplify logistics in this rural location and reduce assembly times. The modular approach allows for efficient construction, spatial optimization, and a high degree of adaptability while maintaining aesthetic refinement.

Casa Bayo exemplifies modern small-house design by balancing sustainability, modular efficiency, and a strong connection with nature, making it an inspiring example of contemporary rural architecture in Argentina.
