Experience Buzz-worthy Sleepovers with Over 1 Million Bees at Southern Italy's Air 'Bee&Bee
Get up close and personal with honeybees at this unique eco-friendly accommodation
Italian beekeeper Rocco Filomeno has created a buzz in the hospitality industry by listing the world’s first bee farm on Airbnb. Located in the charming village of Grottole in Southern Italy, this un-bee-livable home allows guests to experience a unique stay surrounded by over one million bees. The structure has been built on Rocco’s olive farm and comprises a single room surrounded by nine apiaries containing the bees. Guests can fall asleep to the gentle humming sound of the bees, which is known for its soothing effect.
Constructed under the guidance of NGO Wonder Grottole and designed by self-build specialist Davide Tagliabue, the structure was financed through crowdfunding and built by 25 local volunteers at a modest cost of $17,000. All proceeds from bookings go towards Wonder Grottole’s bee conservation projects, making it a noble initiative.
Rocco’s passion for bees and desire to promote awareness and respect for them motivated him to create this unique stay. His dream has now been brought to life, offering guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in the distinctive sound and aroma of the bees, experiencing ‘bee therapy’ in the most authentic and natural way.
Airbnb Categories organize homes based on style, location, or proximity to a travel activity, and the bee farm has been listed under the ‘OMG!’ category. This is one of 56 categories that make it easy for guests to discover millions of unique homes they never knew existed. The bee farm provides an opportunity for guests to live with bees in a safe and controlled environment, something that is not possible in the wild.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by Rocco, who provides a lesson on bees and how to live with them. The specially constructed box in the ceiling of the single room allows guests to observe the working hive of over one million bees, which is a sight to behold. Guests can also take a guided tour of Rocco’s olive farm, and learn about his traditional beekeeping techniques and the importance of bees in the ecosystem.
Staying at the bee farm provides a unique opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature. The peaceful surroundings and the soothing sound of the bees create a calming atmosphere, making it an ideal place for relaxation and rejuvenation. The bee farm is an excellent example of sustainable tourism, as it provides an immersive experience while promoting bee conservation, making it a win-win situation for all.
In conclusion, the bee farm on Airbnb offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience for guests to sleep surrounded by over one million bees, experiencing ‘bee therapy’ in the most authentic and natural way. Rocco’s passion for bees and his desire to promote awareness and respect for them have resulted in the creation of a unique stay that is not only memorable but also supports a noble cause.
