In recent years, the concept of mobility has revolutionized the way we work, with commuting and professional nomadism becoming prevalent. We have found ourselves working in various locations, from poorly designed chairs and cramped homes to bustling cafes and construction sites. This micro-scale travelling within a reduced European perimeter has become an integral part of our lives. However, amidst this constant movement, there is a yearning for a serene and supportive base camp where individuals and collectives can project themselves into a better future.

Enter the BUREAU, a generous and revitalizing space nestled in the heart of beautiful Lisbon. This architectural gem offers respite and allows us to transcend our present circumstances, envisioning a future where we can become something more. It embraces the idea that a good space is one that enables individuals to protect themselves both individually and collectively. Such spaces play a vital role in shaping and conditioning our experiences, serving as rooms where we live our lives, interact with colleagues and loved ones, and share invaluable moments that transcend the confines of virtual meetings.

However, the past months have introduced us to a new concept: immobility. Confinement has become a regular part of our vocabulary, as stability and domestic adaptation within our apartments have taken precedence. We have been confined to the limits of our homes, relying heavily on screens and enduring endless Zoom meetings. Our movements have been reduced to a nano-scale, traversing from one room to another. During this period of immobility, the significance of a comfortable and inspiring workspace has become more pronounced than ever.

Returning to the BUREAU, we rediscover its generous and beautiful ambience that allows us to once again move our bodies freely and experience a diverse range of spaces. It provides an opportunity to transcend the limitations of our confined environments and project ourselves in between two essential "lieux" - our work and living spaces. As we reflect on both the lessons learned from mobility and immobility, we are compelled to rethink the typologies of everyday spaces, especially those pertaining to office interiors.

The BUREAU serves as a testament to these evolving needs, offering a versatile environment that caters to various functions. It seamlessly transforms into an office, an atelier, a living room, a research lab, a dining room, and even a disco. This adaptability fosters a sense of exploration and rejuvenation, encouraging individuals to strive for better ways of working. Drawing inspiration from the famous art piece "How to Work Better" by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, the BUREAU encapsulates the essence of productivity and well-being.

As we continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of work, it is crucial to embrace change, acknowledge our mistakes, and strive for simplicity. By focusing on one task at a time, understanding the problems at hand, and actively listening and questioning, we can create an environment conducive to productivity and innovation. Cultivating a sense of calmness, along with a warm smile, further enhances the work experience.

The BUREAU stands as a testament to the power of a thoughtfully designed office interior in facilitating improved work practices. Its ability to merge the lessons learned from mobility and immobility enables us to envision a future where workspaces not only support productivity but also promote well-being. So, here's to the BUREAU - a space that harmonizes work and life, allowing us to project ourselves into a better, more fulfilling future.
