Discover the Exemplary Housing Project: Maison Denin - A Sustainable Dwelling Embracing Energy Autonomy and Contemporary Design
Nestled near the heart of Namur, Maison Denin stands as a testament to proactive environmental action. The project owner, driven by a desire to address pressing ecological challenges, made the bold decision to leave behind an energy-inefficient rural home and a complex transportation system. The chosen site, situated in the picturesque Meuse valley, boasts an optimal orientation and a tranquil setting, offering a respite from the bustling nearby road.
Prior to the construction, a set of clear technical guidelines were established. These included the utilization of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) panels for a sustainable construction system, incorporation of eco-friendly materials such as wood wool insulation, and the implementation of energy autonomy measures. Renewable energy sources took center stage with the installation of a geothermal heat pump supported by a photovoltaic system.
The architectural design of Maison Denin aimed to achieve the prestigious Q-ZEN (Zero Energy) label while capitalizing on solar gain and harmonizing with the surrounding buildings. The project gracefully adapted to the existing gable, arranged across three levels to make the most of the sloping terrain. The distinct feature of the "folded" side façade not only ensured a continuous volume but also extended the front planted surfaces, seamlessly merging with the garden.
The internal layout of the house prioritized a balance between fluidity and privacy within the living spaces. The careful arrangement of functional and accessible areas created an intimate atmosphere, complemented by thoughtful interior surfaces and integrated furniture design. On the exterior, the architects opted for abstract black surfaces, linking the façade and the roof. The corrugated metal cladding, reminiscent of rural agricultural architecture, pays homage to the urban periphery. The deliberate placement of openings further enhances the coherence, discreetly revealing the function of each space while allowing ample natural light to permeate.
Maison Denin serves as a remarkable example of contemporary housing that seamlessly merges sustainability, architectural innovation, and thoughtful design. With its commitment to energy efficiency, harmonious integration with the surroundings, and a focus on comfortable living spaces, this dwelling sets a new standard for environmentally conscious residential projects.
